In this short performance, saline syringes are connected to two midlines within the my arm, and the saline liquid is pushed in before blood is drawn back out. Then, a cycle begins, as I push blood in, drawing blood out. Push blood in, draw blood out. A violent and external circulatory system temporarily and chokingly breathes in and out the dark, oxygen-rich blood, as I painfully do this operation upon myself. struggling with my cramping fingers to push and pull the plunger of the syringes connected to my new, silicone veins, this performance embodies the medicalization of the sick, disabled subject- making agonizing mechanics of a bodily function- reaching into the corporeal and hijacking that which the body struggles to do for itself. It is all the more uncomfortable, it opens the body up like tin can, and brings those malfunctioning humors outside of it, before spitting them back into the body again- now somehow more tainted, somehow more tired, somehow more broken.
